🏖✈️ A short contract to save $$$ before you go travelling
Oi oi!
Congratulations to everyone who finished their contracts and either left work or are still hanging around for some of the summer before you figure out what’s next.
A word of caution, ignore any recruiter who tries to get you to sign an “exclusivity” deal. It’s nonsense.
The classic explanations are: “Oh you’ll be sending all the same employers your CV and it looks unprofessional”. The reason this is a blatant lie is the recruiter forces companies to sign a contract where they won’t advertise the job anywhere else. The only exception that I’ve seen here is where a company is allowed to advertise the job on their own website. And again, that’s why recruiters won’t tell you the name of the company, and often just say the industry (they don’t want you going direct).
RANT OVER. NOW TO THE JOBS.
🤑💰Here's 2 new top (top) PQE 0 jobs this week
This job says 2 years PQE and then says it’s preferable at the bottom, so I’ve gone with it here. It’s a PQE 0 job all day long and so is the salary. The perks are good and it’s your standard job straight out of the contract. So many people love these jobs.
I was 50/50 all day about this job but I have included it because it is perfect for someone wanting to go travelling in the next 6 months.
Reasons for including: Remote work. Move home and save on rent
Reasons for excluding: The headline says a 3 month remote contract but the first line says 4 months, which means the recruiter copied and pasted the description from an email most likely and pasted it into an older description. Lovely.
RED FLAG: At the bottom of the description they put “Morgan McKinley is acting as an Employment Agency and references to pay rates are indicative.”
Translation in English: They’ve agreed a fee with this company (probably €6/7k per month) and when you agree to take the job they’ll ring you and say the company want you to take less (common lie). Be ready to stand your ground and be very straight. See point 3 in this post about negotiating salary. You should be paid above market rate to compensate you for:
Short term duration of the contract (don’t say you’re going travelling & that you’re interested in trialling out the role)
Lack of perks/sick pay because of the duration of the contract
It won’t break the bank but you’d expect €65k minimum annualised.
