800 jobs, negotiation skills and investment tax changes

Oi oi!

Another Thursday and another ton of jobs. We’re working on getting more salary info, but the recruiters don’t like giving that information away. Our plan is to create a free form that companies can use to submit jobs directly. The only catch is clarity, once they provide the salary ranges, we’ll provide the platform.

If your company is hiring in the near future and you’d be up for testing the new approach with us, we’d happily get it in front of a lot of people for you 🫡

📰👩‍💻 RANDOM NEWS WORTH SHARING

If you’re not aware, Ireland lags behind the rest of the world in its tax treatment of investments. A rule called “deemed disposal” (where you have to pay 41% on earnings every 8 years) essentially wipes out the power of compound interest. This week, the government announced their intention to review it along with a range of other rules. Here’s a subreddit on Irish Personal Finance discussing it.

Why you should care about this: In short, you don’t have to, but it is worth being aware of. Once you have everything in order (house, savings, nice car, etc) you’ll be looking to invest or you may already be at that point. This rule cuts all the benefits of investing in Ireland compared to the UK and US. A lot of commentary points to this as a factor to our property crisis (more profitable to own property than invest in stocks because of deemed disposal) but fingers crossed the government make the necessary adjustments for us.

🤑🔫 “I’M POOR AT NEGOTIATING”

This book is the go-to suggestion for those interested in improving their negotiation skills : Never Split the Difference. It’s written by a former FBI hostage negotiator who offers a field-tested approach to negotiating. I have found it to be incredibly valuable in negotiating salaries as well as general day to day negotiations. Armed with our jobs excel and some salary info, you should be in a good spot.
