Did you miss me?😋😉🏧
Oi oi!
It’s been a while, but it feels good to be back. We’ve been working on a few things…. and we’d love to get your thoughts on what we should prioritise. Just FYI, the jobs are updated on the website with the usual links below✍️💸.
Brief background
We took a sabbatical after holidays to try and figure out a plan for this email. For our new subscribers, we’ve been on the road just over a year now and it’s been bizarrely good - what was a bit of a random conversation turned into sending an email which spiralled into growing week on week to where we are now with 75% open rates and nearly 400 people on socials across insta and this newsletter.
Recruiters chasing us & $$
Recruiters are all over us because you are so valuable to them. €15k per person minimum means €6m if all of our followers eventually took a job through them versus them sending 1 million LinkedIn DMs a day. We’ve obviously said no because the whole purpose of the page was that it would be unbiased opinions and not financially motivated. We really believe there should be a community for chartered accountants that is actually useful. And the growth of this newsletter means you think that too.
An online community
There should be a place where you could reach out to someone and pick up a mentor in a cool job 4/5 years ahead of you and ask them for advice and or potential job opportunities.
How do we apply for jobs with no company name, no salary and no idea who we’ll be working for? It’s hard to believe it’s the current set up... We’ll change that, one email at a time (lol) but we need your help figuring out which part of change first.
Quick side note, some lad actually replied and said I need to stop saying lol that it was lowering the tone of the emails 😂😂 A fully free service, weekly email plus website with options and still giving out. You love to hear it. ANYWAY.
The 3 projects we’ve drawn up are:
A mentoring program
A new website with more options (Daft for ACA jobs)
A community
Which one should we focus on first? Here’s some details of the projects, and below them you can hit a vote button.
A 4 week mentoring program
For people looking for new jobs (we’ll probably just run two a year because of work):
Group size: 5 people
Cost: Free
Selection: We’ll pick 5 people we feel need the help. Last time we had 20 people on instagram showing interest
Structure: 4×1hr group zoom calls + 1hr one to one zoom covering 4 key areas (Choosing a new career path & telling work you’re leaving, CV building, Interview prep, Negotiating)
We got Patrick McCarthy to agree to come on board as the mentor. He has worked with 6,500 students over the last 5 years and is in year 3 of a PhD program studying performance psychology for chartered accountants
An updated “daft for jobs”
Excel sheet that would be hosted on our website (as usual, for free)
Updated weekly, hosting 300+ jobs on a weekly basis from all the recruiters in Ireland (currently we’re down to 5 and have between 90-150 jobs online)
An online community
We think there should be a community of chartered accountants like above
Patrick has agreed to create mental skills for exams content, plus share some of his corporate training to host in the community.
We’d also plan to get other smart ACAs to share ideas, jobs and advice but it’s a lot of work.
If you don’t want to vote, I understand and that’s cool but if you do vote there’s a very high chance you influence it and get what you want for free.
Which should we focus on? Pick one❤️ |
