Oi oi!

I made a big mistake last week sharing the salary secrets form—it wasn’t accessible to the public. Since then, we've had 57 responses, and it would be great if you could add yours too. Here’s the link to the form with 11 questions.

Having an anonymous place to host this data is incredibly helpful for anyone negotiating new jobs or just looking for insights. Based on the responses so far, I can already create some interesting comparisons for you to consider, such as the likely financial outcomes of staying in practice versus moving to industry.

Here’s a snapshot:

⏳Practice - Just Qualified

Qualified Senior Dublin

Base salary: €53-€56k

Hours per week: 40-65

Health Insurance: No

Pension: No

Bonus: No

Note: Perks generally start once you become a manager and are considered a permanent employee. You’ll see below that benefits increase in line with those in industry once you enter management.

🚀Industry - Just Qualified

Financial Accountant (PQE 0)

Base salary: €55-€60k

Hours per week: 37.5-45

Health Insurance: Sometimes

Pension: 5-8%

Bonus: 5-10%

Note: The key here (IMHO) is that you’ll generally be better paid and work fewer hours in industry, but career progress often depends on the company. In a Big 4 firm, promotion is more predictable, generally every 2-2.5 years up to Director level. In practice, you might become CFO of a smaller firm in three years—or it might take just as long to secure a single promotion.

Practice - 4 Years PQE

Associate Director Big 4

Base salary: €78k-€85k

Hours per week: 55-70

Health Insurance: Yes

Pension: 10%

Bonus: 5%

Industry - 4 Years PQE

Financial Controller - Anywhere

Base salary: €75k-€85k

Hours per week: 37.5-45

Health Insurance: Yes

Pension: 5-10%

Bonus: 5-10%
